Species

What we keep in stock

Colors shown are representative. Every board is different, which is exactly the point, and you are always welcome to come select your own stock at the yard.

White Oak

Rift, quartered and plain sawn. The most requested species we sell, and the most forgiving in a coastal climate.

Black Walnut

Rich chocolate tones that lighten slightly with age. FAS grade boards and wide slabs.

Hard Maple

Tight, pale and dense. Our default for paint grade cabinetry and high wear surfaces.

Sapele

Ribbon striped mahogany alternative with excellent stability for paneling and doors.

Cherry

Warms from pink to deep amber over the first year. Beautiful for furniture and libraries.

Ash

Bold open grain similar to oak at a friendlier price. Takes stain exceptionally well.

African Mahogany

Classic reddish brown with a fine even texture. A traditional choice for doors and trim.

Wenge

Nearly black with fine pale lines. Used as accent, inlay and statement furniture.

Also stocked: red oak, hickory, poplar, alder, beech, birch, teak, padauk, purpleheart, white pine and cypress. Call 228-270-8072 for current availability and dimensions.

Buying Guidance

How to buy lumber without getting burned

Most people overpay for wood because of things nobody explained to them. A few minutes of guidance usually saves more than the difference between suppliers.

  • Board foot, not linear foot. A board foot is 144 cubic inches. A wide thick board costs more per linear foot for the same price per board foot.
  • Grade matters more than species. FAS, select and common grades price very differently. Common grade is often perfect for painted work.
  • Rough versus surfaced. Rough stock is cheaper but you lose thickness in milling. Budget for the waste before you buy.
  • Moisture content. Kiln dried to 6 to 8 percent is what you want for interior work in Florida. Anything wetter will move after you build.
  • Width drives price. Wide boards come from big logs and cost disproportionately more. Gluing narrower stock is often smarter.
  • Buy 15 to 20 percent extra. Defects, snipe and cutting waste are real. Running short mid project means a color mismatch.

Material Questions

Good to know

Can I pick my own boards?

Yes, and we encourage it for furniture and anything where grain and color matter. Come by during business hours and we will pull stock with you.

Is your lumber kiln dried?

Yes. Our hardwood is kiln dried, typically to 6 to 8 percent moisture content, and acclimated in our building before it goes out the door.

Do you sell to the public?

Yes. We sell to homeowners, hobbyists, woodworkers, cabinet shops and builders alike. There is no minimum purchase for will call.

Can you mill material I already own?

Yes. We plane, joint, rip and run moulding for customer supplied stock, billed by the board foot or linear foot. Material must be free of nails, screws and embedded metal.

Do you ship lumber or slabs?

Local delivery is available across South Florida. Slabs and larger orders can be crated and freight shipped, quoted by weight and destination.

Have a drawing, a room, or just an idea?

Send us dimensions or a photo and we will come back with a design direction, material options and a written price.
